Queens tile jobs are usually baths and kitchens in two-family houses and walk-ups, and entries in houses where sand and slush come through the door. In a Rockaway beach house, a tiled entry takes sand and wet feet without complaint.

Tile for different Queens homes

An Astoria walk-up bath, a Forest Hills kitchen and a Rockaway entry each ask something different of a tile floor. In walk-ups the rooms are small and the subfloor is often old wood framing, so we check stiffness before choosing a tile size, because a floor that flexes cracks grout. In larger houses in Forest Hills and Bayside, kitchens open onto family rooms, and the edge where tile meets hardwood is planned so the heights match. At the beach, porcelain handles sand and wet feet without fuss, and a textured surface helps when floors get wet. In two-family houses, the bathroom stack often lines up between floors, which makes it sensible to plan both baths in one visit. Grout and tile color are chosen together, and the layout starts from the doorway so cut pieces land out of sight. We confirm all of it on the free on-site visit.
