Solid or engineered in a Suffolk house
Most Suffolk houses we are asked about are two-story colonials, capes or ranches over a full basement. The upstairs bedrooms and main floor usually sit on plywood, which is where solid hardwood nailed down gives the longest life between sandings. A finished basement is a different job: concrete below grade calls for engineered boards glued or floated, and only after a moisture reading.
Long Island humidity swings between a damp August and a dry, heated January, so we let boards acclimate in the house before the first row goes down and leave the expansion gaps the product asks for.
