Click-lock, floating or glue-down

How the planks are held down matters as much as which planks you pick. Click-lock planks snap together edge to edge and float over the base, which is the usual route in homes and apartments. Glue-down, sometimes called dryback, bonds each piece to the subfloor and tends to show up in bigger open areas and commercial spaces. Loose lay products rely on weight and grip where the manufacturer allows it.

Baseboards, shoe molding and quarter round

Floating vinyl needs a small gap at the walls, and trim is what hides it. We can remove and reinstall your current baseboards or put in new ones, then run shoe molding or quarter round along the bottom edge. Shoe molding has a slimmer profile that sits nicely against older Brooklyn trim, while quarter round is a bit rounder and fuller. Whichever you choose, the trim goes on the same estimate as the floor.

Living with a vinyl floor

Day-to-day upkeep is simple: sweep grit away, damp-mop with a mild product, and skip harsh abrasives or steam machines that can dull the wear layer. Pets, strollers and kids are generally fine on a quality plank, though sharp chair legs and dragged appliances can still scratch or dent it, so glides and mats at entries help.
