New floors start with a clean base. When the job calls for it, we handle tear-out of existing floor materials and efficient disposal, and the scope is listed on your estimate.
Subfloor preparation
Solid hardwood is nailed or stapled to a proper plywood subfloor. Engineered hardwood can be nailed, glued, or floated, and is a better fit for below-grade, concrete, and radiant heat when the product allows.
Either way, we inspect and prepare the subfloor so the new floor goes down smooth and lasts. Subfloor repairs, leveling, and underlayment are listed on the install estimate as their own line so you see the scope. More on our subfloor repair page.
Hardwood repairs
When only some planks are ruined, we pull the damaged boards and install matched replacements (species, width, and grade as close as the floor allows), then blend the repair into a full sand and finish. After leaks, we check for wet or soft subfloor before we sand — see water-damaged floor repair.
